Senior Advisor, Indigenous Engagement

Duration: 12-month temporary role

Compensation approximately between $96K - $137K

If so, then this opportunity is for you! We are looking for a highly motivated, self-starter to join our growing Indigenous Relations team at Hydro One!

General Accountabilities:

  • Reporting to the Manager, Indigenous Relations the successful candidate will support in the implementation of Hydro One’s Indigenous Relations policy.
  • Developing efficient and effective working relationships with:
  • Management and staff of other departments and divisions, separately and when engaged on multi-disciplinary project planning teams to discuss matters pertaining to Indigenous Relations;
  • Representatives of Indigenous communities, government departments and agencies and with federal, provincial, and municipal leaders, to discuss projects/programs affecting Indigenous communities; and
  • Consultants and specialists while engaging with Indigenous communities and when dealing with contract administration matters.
  • Leading meetings with Indigenous communities to discuss projects/programs, monitor project progress, and assist field staff and other Hydro One representatives.
  • Assisting in identifying existing and future barriers to Hydro One's ability to deliver reliable, low cost energy and helping developing strategies to address barriers.
  • Supporting the establishment of influential strategic internal and external relationships.
  • Consulting with other utilities and ministries with regards to matters relating to Indigenous Relations.
  • Leading the management of issues and concerns raised by Indigenous communities in and effective and efficient and timely manner.

 

Selection Criteria

Essential Competencies:

 

  • Requires experience in project management and negotiations, including development and implementation of Indigenous engagement and consultation plans.
  • A background in business planning and reporting with well-developed analytical skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the goals and aspirations of Indigenous people in Ontario and how they relate to the energy industry.
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • The ability to work in a busy environment with competing and changing priorities and limited supervision (supervising manager will be based out of Toronto).
  • Requires planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and monitoring the quality and quantity of work.
  • A university degree in Indigenous studies, social sciences, public or business administration, public policy or equivalent.
  • Frequent travel may be required and a valid Driver’s License is necessary
